Metadata Review Group Wins One NASA Team Peer Award!

The Metadata Review Group (MRG - http://library.gsfc.nasa.gov/mrg/mrg.htm), which was initiated and continues to be coordinated by the Goddard Library, recently received a One NASA Team Peer Award. This new award is presented to teams who exemplify the spirit of One NASA through cross-agency collaboration and the promotion of standards and best practices. The award is particularly significant since nominations are made by peers. Goddard’s MRG was nominated by staff at JPL.

The MRG, which includes employees and contractors from Goddard, JPL, Glenn, and Langley, as well as metadata experts from other federal agencies and academia, began as a group to review the development of the Goddard Core Metadata Element Set. While the group continues to support this mission, it has grown into an opportunity for those working on metadata to share experiences, work toward common approaches, map crosswalks for specific metadata element sets, and develop strategies for advancing the use and application of metadata across NASA.

The MRG listserv now includes over 30 individuals. Quarterly meetings average over 10 participants in person and by teleconference. Goddard staff receiving the award include Nikkia Anderson, Robin Dixon, Gail Hodge, Randy Hoffman, Jonathan Lorig, Daniel Smith, Jr., Clay Templeton, Kathleen McGlaughlin, and Huacheng Tu of the Goddard Library; Walt Truszkowski (Code 588); Stephan Naus (Code 585); Emma Antunes (Code 295); Donald Sawyer (Code 690); Louis Reich (Code 690); Laura Rocchio (Code 614); Paul Brandinger (Code 420) and Gene Major (Code 610). Members from other NASA centers include Susan Oberc (GRC), Margo Young (JPL), Jayne Dutra (JPL), Joseph Busch (JPL), Greta Lowe (LARC), and Tammy Jones (LARC).

The award was presented by Diane Williams, Directory of Management Operations, during a ceremony at the Goddard Library on March 24.

Anyone interested in metadata is invited to join the MRG by contacting Nikkia Anderson (nikkia@pop200.gsfc.nasa.gov).
