That Xrefer brings digital reference books to your desktop?

Open Reference Book

The Goddard Library’s new subscription to the xrefer database offers full text access to a variety of online reference books, along with images, customizable data, visual concept maps of results, sound, maps, and more, directly to your desktop.

Xrefer offers hundreds of reference books covering every major topic, including art, medicine, history, technology, and more. The collection features over 2 million entries; 180,000 audio pronunciation files; 66,000 art, science, and medical images; and 90,000 atlas images of places and geographic features throughout the world. Simultaneously search hundreds of titles to find definitions, pronunciations, synonyms, conversions, maps, illustrations, to check facts and figures and more!

Features include:

  • Searchable content from reference books such as dictionaries, thesauri, quotations, atlases and more
  • Basic writing and language tools such as bilingual dictionaries, the American Heritage Dictionary, and the Columbia Encyclopedia
  • Specialized dictionaries such as Dictionary of Astronomy, McGraw Hill Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, Compact American Dictionary of Computer Words, and An Illustrated Dictionary of Aviation
